Homeowner FAQ
Homeowner questions.
Straight answers about what this is and is not.
01 · About the assessment
How it works.
How does the assessment work?
You answer a short wizard about your property (ZIP, property type, damage type, affected rooms, visible conditions), and you can attach photos to document the damage. Caro, our rule-based assessment engine, analyzes your answers and returns a severity score, detailed observations, a broad cost range, recommended next steps, and risk flags. The whole process takes about 5 minutes. See the AI Disclosure for exactly how reports are generated.
Is this an insurance estimate?
No. Property Claim Guide provides educational guidance only. It is not an insurance estimate, not a binding repair quote, and not a substitute for a licensed professional inspection. The platform is designed to help you prepare for conversations with licensed professionals and your insurance company.
How accurate is the severity score?
Caro's severity rating uses a 1–10 scale (1 = cosmetic or very minor, 10 = uninhabitable). It is generated by calibrated rules from your answers and is designed to help you prioritize next steps, not to replace professional evaluation; always verify findings with a licensed professional.
Do I need to create an account?
No. You can complete an assessment without creating an account. You'll receive a unique result token that lets you return to your results page at any time. You'll also receive your report by email.
02 · Photos and privacy
Your data, handled carefully.
What happens to my photos?
Photos are transferred securely over HTTPS, checked for readability, and counted so your report can note how well the damage is documented. They are not stored on our systems and are never shared with anyone; keep your originals, as we cannot return photos to you later.
How many photos should I attach?
Attach 1 to 15 photos. Include wide shots showing the room context and close-ups of visible damage; that's what an adjuster or restoration pro will want to see.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. You can request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at [email protected]. We will soft-delete your data immediately and hard-delete it within 30 days of a verified request.
03 · Understanding your results
Reading your report.
What does the severity score mean?
The severity score is a 1–10 rating of how extensive the damage appears based on your answers. Lower scores (1–3) point to cosmetic or minor, localized damage; the middle of the scale (4–6) reflects moderate damage that usually warrants professional attention in one or more areas; and higher scores (7–10) indicate significant to severe damage across multiple areas or systems, with 10 meaning the home is uninhabitable or unsafe to occupy.
What are risk flags?
Risk flags highlight conditions that may need urgent attention: standing water, visible mold, structural concerns, odor, active leaks, or electrical hazards near water. These are prompts to seek professional help promptly.
What does the cost range mean?
The cost range is a broad educational band (e.g., $1,500–$7,500) that reflects the general scope of work suggested by your damage description. It is not a quote. Actual costs depend on local labor rates, hidden damage, material choices, and pro pricing.
04 · Pro forwarding
Connecting with a pro.
Does forwarding cost anything?
No. Forwarding your report to pros is free for homeowners. Pros pay for lead access on their side.
Can I forward my report to a pro?
Yes. After receiving your results, you can choose to forward your report to Nevada pros whose license we've verified in your ZIP code who specialize in your damage type. This is completely optional and only happens when you check the pro-matching consent box. The pro sees your damage description and severity assessment; your contact details are shared with at most 3 pros.
How are pros verified?
Pros submit their state license numbers and business details, and each application is manually reviewed, including a check of license credentials against Nevada's public licensing registry, before the pro is marked as verified. We do not verify insurance coverage; always confirm licensing and insurance directly before hiring.
